ARTIST STATEMENT

Alli began her path as an artist after retiring from public education. She’s worked under many notable LA artists and taken classes at Emeritus College, Santa Monica City College and Otis College with a focus on figurative drawing and landscape painting. She continues her painting education with Linda Jacobson, Otis instructor, up to the present time.

Alli’s work is a culmination of her travels and experiences with the natural world. Guided by textures, movement, and colors, Alli’s art expresses the joy of time spent fully immersed in the wonder of nature.

When painting, Alli’s process often starts with play. She begins her piece by applying a variety of gels to create a textured foundation. Pouring on mylar, layering painted paper, and collaging miscellaneous found materials reveal hidden surprises that steer her forward. Alli especially enjoys capturing light. Whether it be an illuminated sunset, a reflection on the water, highlights on mountain tops, or leaves gradually changing color with the season. Alli revels in the challenge of finding the perfect tool, brushstroke, or color mixing technique to express the ephemeral beauty unique to each experience.

Alli's art journey is an ever-changing and expanding expression of gratitude for the beauty that surrounds her. The art-making process allows her to be present, continually practicing skills she carries into her life outside of the studio as well.
